With the date for Dust Hustle™ 4: Biddaddaba fast approaching, let’s take a little time to preview the tracks for this scramble shamble.
The venue for this event is the home track for the Queensland Vintage Motocross Club (QVMX) at Biddaddaba. A superb spot just to watch the sun set (how romantic after a day of riding), all the current tracks at the QVMX venue are professional level race tracks certified by Motorcycling Australia. They’ve been developed by some of the best in the business, so you know it’s going to be a good time.
Given our motley crew of motorcycles we’ll be grooming the tracks smoother than your usual and bypassing all of the jumps (just to make sure no one gets crushed by a Harley). It won’t be like glass (who the hell want’s that?), but it will definitely be smooth enough to pilot an improper road bike around. Because that’s stupid enough and just the way we like it!
Note: All track layouts and directions are subject to change.
1. “THE MIDDLE CHILD” NATURAL TERRAIN GRASS TRACK
Often unloved, this mid size grass track has all the ingredients for our pick of the event. Reasonably flat with some on and off camber corners, it’s a ripe mix of tight turns and short straights. A sure fire hit with the more nimble bikes with low HP.
A predominantly grass surface greets the riders for this one, so you neighbours front lawn is a great place to practice. There’s a well worn inside line, but the real action will be the passing manoeuvres around the outside where the lush grass will set up an inside run for the next corner.
The smaller bikes in each class will have a definite advantage on this track as it favours late braking and corner speed. With only a short straight, the big power bikes will struggle to re-pass those who cleaned them up in the corners too! A potential big-bore graveyard.
2. “HOLLYWOOD HILLBILLY” HILLSIDE GROOMED LONG TRACK
This one’s your big boy! Over 2km long and covering some of the best sweeping hills, the ‘Hollywood’ has got everything you wished for in one track. Big corners, long straights and some tight sections just to test the brakes.
Fully groomed dark loamy dirt is the surface which we’ll be ‘pulling’ a little smoother than your usual MX track. We’ll avoid the jumps and focus on the epic berms, serious straights and sweeping turns for this one.
Heard of ‘arm pump’? You’ll be best friends after wrestling your ride around this one for a few laps! Luckily there’s a pit stop for plenty of on and off action.
3. “DAD’S A DRAG QUEEN” GRASS TRACK DRAGS
A special track developed only for Dust Hustle™ 4! Practice the throttle control and race starts for this one. Settle the scores with your fellow hustlers or simply decide who buys first at the bar.
Did we mention it’s on a hill? Yep, a slight incline will greet riders as they race off 2 at a time. It also means a gear change at the wrong time will be even more evident against your opponent.
We’re not sure who’ll have the advantage here. Small bikes will get off the line quick, but might get swallowed up at the far end of the track. Big bikes will struggle for traction and getting the weight moving up the hill but will certainly finish strong. Maybe the mid size bikes in each group will make this their own?
The elevation changes on each track certainly make for some radical riding at this event, and a nice little point of difference before we make our way back to the flat track for DH5 in November.
The tracks at DH4 will be smooth enough and easy enough for any novice ride to tackle, while still providing enough excitement for the more experienced muppets to really let loose. Whatever you’re riding in whatever class, there will be something for everyone at Dust Hustle™ 4: Biddaddaba!
